Welcome!
Soroptimist International is the world’s largest women’s service club, with members in the Americas, Europe and Asia. The word Soroptimist is a coined word meaning “best for women.”
On a local level, Soroptimist International of Stuart (SIS) is one of the largest clubs in our district with over 50 active members. Membership is comprised of local business and professional women focused on serving and enhancing our community.
Both internationally and locally, Soroptimist has recently concentrated their attention on women who are victims of sexual and human trafficking. A coalition was formed as a direct result of the work through Soroptimist International of Stuart.
The organization’s goals are:
–To maintain high, ethical standards in business and professional life.
–To strive for human rights for all people and, in particular, to advance the status of women.
–To develop a spirit of friendship and unity among Soroptimists of all countries.
–To quicken a spirit of service and human understanding.
–To contribute to international understanding and universal friendship.
SIS proudly sponsors and facilitates the annual Christmas Parade, the prestigious Women of Distinction Awards, and other award programs specifically for women. We provide assistance to women by providing free mammograms through our Save Our Selves/Save Our Sisters (SOS/SOS) project. The STEPS (Soroptimist Training and Education Program for Scholarships) program provides scholarships for students. The ongoing International Relations project has supported and funded many worthwhile projects over the past decade. And scholarships and community grants are awarded by SIS each year to Martin County residents and organizations.
For those new members and/or potential members logging on to our Web site for the first time, our theme this year is “We Made a Difference to That One.” Truly, we are making a difference in every life that we touch. To quote a young woman that we helped, “I will never forget what Soroptimist has done for me. It was because of your scholarship that I developed my self esteem that was able to give me the motivation to go back to school. Now, three years later as a single mother, I am able to support my family with confidence – a confidence that I found through Soroptimist.” Clearly we made a difference to that one.
Join me, as I celebrate our history, our present and our future. I have been a member since 1991 and there is not a day that goes by that I am not humbled, proud and honored to be a part of a group that not only believes in the community for which it serves, but also believes in the membership that sustains a very significant mission.
Sincerely,

Glenna Parris
President
