Community Awards

Community awards and scholarships are another way that Soroptimist International of Stuart exhibits its core values of improving the lives of women and girls and giving back to the community. community service.
 
Please Note: Previous Women’s Opportunity Award, Ruby Award and Violet Richardson Award recipients are ineligible to apply. Soroptimists, empolyees of Soroptimist Organization and the immediate families of both, as defined as parents, siblings and children by adoption, blood or marriage, are also ineligible to apply.

Soroptimist International of Stuart, part of Soroptimist International of the Americas, is dedicated to improving the lives of women and girls, in local communities and throughout the world.

Soroptimist Violet Richardson Award

The Soroptimist Ruby Award honors women who, through their professional or personal efforts, are making extraordinary differences in the lives of women or girls. Honorees are women who have worked to improve the lives of other women or girls. Their work has had a significant impact, and also inspires and encourages other women. Women may nominate themselves or another woman they feel is deserving of this honor.
Application Deadline: December 1, 2011
Eligibility Requirements:
• A woman in the community who is improving the lives of women or girls through her professional or personal life.
• By identifying and focusing on a need of women and girls, this woman has contributed to the improvement of their lives.
• Although clubs may honor a woman for a lifetime of good work, the majority of the work should have occurred within the past two years.

Soroptimist Women's Opportunity Award

The Women’s Opportunity Awards program provides women who serve as the primary wage earners for their families with the financial resources to offset costs associated with their efforts to attain higher education or additional skills and training. The award can be used for tuition, books, childcare, carfare or any other education-related expense. This program was created to help women improve their ability to provide for their families. Since the program’s inception in 1972, approximately $15 million in Women’s Opportunity Awards has been disbursed to about 25,000 women throughout the countries served by Soroptimist International of the Americas.
Application Deadline: December 15, 2011
Eligibility Requirements:
• Provide primary finanical support for herself and her family (including children, sprouse, siblings and/or parents).
• Attend or have been accepted to a vocational/skills training program or an undergraduate degree.
• Have financial need..
• Be motivated to achieve her educational and career goals.
• Reside in one of SIA’s member countries or territories.
